The
Cathedral of Mary Our Queen upholds
many traditions of the great cathedrals of Europe. |
|
In these
great cathedrals, the building served as a tool to
teach the faithful, many of whom were illiterate, about the
faith. The
building itself, its artwork, its statues, its stained-glass
windows all served
to educate and catechize those who made pilgrimages from near
and far. |
Journey through this website as a "pilgrimage" -- to
visit, to learn, and to grow
in your faith.... |
| The architecture of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen is of contemporary
design, drawing heavily from Gothic influences which can be seen
especially in the generous window areas, the pronounced slimness
of its form, its softly pointed arches, and bay buttresses. The
Cathedral is noted for its unusual interior buttresses, which
serve as one of the main supports of the great nave. The lines
in the Cathedral immediately draw one's eyes to the focal point,
which is the high altar. This points to the centrality of what
takes place there in the Eucharist both for the building and for
our faith. |
