Children's Liturgy of the Word
The readings for Mass are suitably adapted to make it relevant to the lives and experiences of young people. They hear the same readings as the adults, but at a level that is appropriate for their age group. Read more >
Altar Servers
Boys and girls who are in grades 4-12 are encouraged to assist the clergy at Sunday and weekday Masses and at other liturgical functions. Training is offered twice a year, in the fall and the spring. Please contact Kathy Norman or sign up here.
Note: a special Installation and Commissioning Ceremony
will take place on Sunday, January 9, 2011, at the 9:15am Mass. Download Msgr. Jarboe's Message to Altar Servers.
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
Honor Christ by distributing Holy Communion at Sunday and weekday Masses. If you are interested, please talk to one of the priests. To serve, you must be reliable, responsible, and have a devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. The completion of training program is required. Please contact Tom Peddicord or Nancy Lowitt or sign up here.
After-Mass Fellowship
Outdoor Coffees
Outdoor coffees are offered on the second and fourth Sundays after the 9:15 Mass, weather permitting, from May through October, for friendly fellowship. We welcome families to help with set-up, serving and clean-up. This is also an opportunity for Confirmation service hours. If you'd like to help do this, please contact Carolyn Knott.
Coffee Fellowship in the Library
Fellowship and refreshments are also available in the Library (lower level of the cathedral) on the first Sundays of each month, except July and August, after the 9:15 and 11:00 am Masses.
Greeters
Share your friendly smile! Adults, children and families of our parish can greet parishioners at the doors of the Cathedral. If you are willing to offer a friendly smile and a few words of welcome to parishioners and guests, we need your help! The time commitment is only once a month, 15 minutes before Mass begins, at the Mass of your choice. Help make the Cathedral Parish even more friendly. If you'd like to help do this, please contact Carolyn Knott.
Ushers
Assist during liturgical celebrations with seating, collections, and congregational needs. We need men and women who are age 18 years and older, reliable, responsible, reverential, good with people, can arrive at church at least fifteen minutes before their assigned Mass/liturgy beginsm, can count heads while manipulating the collection basket, with some knowledge of first-aid and emergency procedures. Permanent Ushers serve one Sunday Mass per week. Special Liturgies Ushers serve on Holy Days, holidays, the Sacred Triduum, and special archdiocesan liturgies. Substitute Ushers are also needed. Please contact David Banta or sign up here.
Lectors
If you can communicate a sense of prayerfulness and reverence, if you are a daily reader of scripture, and if you are an effective public speaker, you are invited to proclaim the Word of God at Masses. Sunday Mass lectors server according to scheduling. Weekday Mass lectors serve one Mass per week. Please contact Shirley Davis or sign up here -- However, if you are interested in serving as a lector, first please speak to one of our priests.
Gift Bearers
The ministry of Gift Bearer enacts an important ritual action, the presentation of the gifts during the Offertory for the preparation of the Eucharistic table. Gift Bearers are chosen from among the faithful to represent the entire congregation at Mass by presenting, on behalf of all, the gifts of bread and wine. Volunteering to present the gifts at Mass can be done any time, but it's also a great way to honor God in thanksgiving for anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. Serving in this capacity does not require special skills or training. Individuals or families who would like to bring the gifts of bread and wine to the altar during the Eucharistic liturgy are encouraged to sign up for this ministry.
- Proper dress is required.
- The family or group should arrive at Mass 10-15 minutes ahead of the scheduled start and report in the Ushers Sacristy that they are there.
- They should then take their seat in the reserved pew.
- If they have not reported prior to 5 minutes before the Mass is to begin, the Ushers will select a different family and seat them in the reserved pew.
- The Gift Bearers will be instructed by the Ushers as to when to collect the gifts.
To participate in this important ministry, contact David Banta.

Volunteers-at-Large
We need volunteers to assist the clergy and staff at special (usually archdiocesan) celebrations, especially vesting the clergy for episcopate liturgies; and by doing occasional and one-time odd jobs, such as arranging hymnals in the pews in the nave and cleaning debris from the pews after the Easter Vigil. Send an email to Gail Fennessey.
