Lectors or Readers of Scripture

It is proper for a lay person to proclaim the First and Second Readings from scripture and to announce the intentions of the Prayer of the Faithful.

Couples should invite members of the family or the bridal party or other close friends to serve in this capacity.

The nature of the Word of God requires that these readers be persons of faith and effective as proclaimers of the Word. They should also have a good, well-projected public speaking voice.

Give them copies of the readings prior to the wedding so they can become very familiar with the text. They also need to be present at the rehearsal.
