Adopt-A-Family for Christmas
Guidelines
In Adopting-A-Family, one undertakes to provide FOOD AND GIFTS for the family.
The FOOD portion should contain food (non-perishable and uncooked) for a complete family Christmas dinner, along with any extras you care to add. Remember, this is the end of the month, when people run out of food. Please be as generous as you can.
NO FROZEN or PERISHABLE GOODS -- except that a frozen turkey or canned ham can be included in your package
Suggested items for the Christmas dinner:
Frozen turkey OR canned ham, potatoes/yams, canned fruit, cranberry sauce, canned sauerkraut stuffing, onions, canned vegetables, cookies in cans, coffee/tea, tin foil pan for turkey.
Suggested extra items:
Cereal, peanut butter and jelly, soup, rice, juice, candy, sugar, canned meat or fish, soap/shampoo, toothbrushes/toothpaste, paper goods, plastic wraps/bags, cleaning supplies
Gift Suggestions:
Each person should have something new even if it is a small item. Gift Certificates are good for all ages if you are not sure what to get. If you are giving a gift certificate, please place it in a small gift box with person’s name and family number.
BOYS AND GIRLS:
Toy cars, dolls, frisbees, Nerf footballs, board games, basketballs. (Toys are most needed.) An age-appropriate BOOK could be an extra.
Where to Shop:
To make your dollar go further, you may want to consider shopping at: Food warehouses (Sam’s Club, BJ’s, etc), Marshalls, Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or Sears.
