Civic & Religious Emergency Services
(CARES)
Help feed the hungry in our community!
CARES is a social services ministry within the Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation (GEDCO), which provides emergency assistance to Northern Baltimore residents who
have a documented need. It's an interfaith partnership that pools resources to respond to the needs of the people in the community who are facing financial hardships.
CARES operates a food pantry and an emergency assistance center located behind Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church on York Road in Govans. All food brought to the baskets at the doors of the Cathedral will be donated to the CARES Food Pantry.
Member congregations provide support to CARES through volunteer assistance, food and financial contributions. By joining our coalition, congregations can be certain that the people they are helping have legitimate needs. When people seeking assistance approach a member congregation, they are referred to the CARES center, where they are interviewed by trained volunteers, and are often provided with emergency food packages, eviction and utility cut-off prevention funds, pharmacy assistance vouchers, and social service referrals.
