This stone panel shows the Sacrament of Baptism. It portrays Father Andrew White, S.J., one of two Jesuit missionaries who arrived with the first Catholic settlers in Maryland. He is baptizing an Indian convert. A compassionate missionary, Father White worked hard to learn the Native American languages. He compiled a dictionary of their words and translated Catholic prayers into their native tongue. Click the photo to continue.
