Becoming Catholic at Cathedral
The process of welcoming those who wish to enter the Catholic Church is known as the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). This year-round process allows anyone to come at anytime and join in the formation process. It is a spiritual journey which requires time, prayer, reflection and discernment.
Through the RCIA process, adults learn about the Catholic tradition and prepare for the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Non-baptized adults, baptized persons from other Christian communities and baptized Catholics who have not received Eucharist and Confirmation are all welcome to be a part of our program.
Meeting nights are Thursdays from 7pm to 8:30pm in the Parish Center.
If you have any questions about this process, or are interested in potentially joining RCIA, please contact Chris McCullough, our Director of Faith Formation, so he can meet you, answer your questions about the process, discuss your spiritual formation, and provide you with resources.
The RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation of Children) is a process that is designed for children between the ages of 7 and 14 who have not been baptized, or who have been baptized in the Christian Faith, but have not received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. This process is one that involves the whole family and begins in when the candidate is ready. The process culminates in the celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation. The most common place for that celebration is at the Easter Vigil, however, reception can occur at other times of the year, depending on the candidate for reception. Formational meetings occur on Sundays in the school building (parish center during summer months ) from 10:45 – 12 PM. Please contact Chris McCullough at [email protected] for more information.
This class is for any adult baptized Catholic who has received his/her first communion and been catechized in the faith, but has not been fully initiated through the sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament is celebrated twice during the year; once on Pentecost Sunday and the second in the fall, normally during October.
Candidates will need to get a copy of their baptismal certificate and find a person to sponsor them. Preparatory classes are offered in the Cathedral’s Parish Center meeting rooms five weeks prior to the celebration of the sacrament. One does not need to be a Cathedral parishioner to participate in the preparatory classes. If you have questions or need more information, contact Chris McCullough at [email protected].
