Sunday School of Religion
Here’s another way to draw closer to God while enjoying enormous personal satisfaction. Contribute one hour of your time on Sunday mornings to guide youngsters in Cathedral’s Sunday School. We prefer to have two classes per grade and two teachers in each class. Children play an integral part in liturgy and sacrament. We supply the teaching aids and the youngsters and you supply your faith, mature wisdom, and insights.
“It is so enjoyable to explore our Catholicism with the young people. I never realized that it would be so satisfying.” – one of our Catechists
We are currently using the RCL Benziger Religion programs “Blest are We” and “Family Life.”
In “Blest are We,” a spiral-thematic curriculum, there are six standard themes – one in each grade level – and the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church are incorporated into the unit structure at each grade level. Scripture, the foundation of every chapter, leads to a presentation of Catholic doctrine – statements of belief, worship, morality and prayer. In addition, inspiring stories are included to bring Saints and other important Catholic figures to life.
As an integral part of our faith formation curriculum, we will be teaching Catechesis for Family Life. This age-appropriate program about Christian living, chastity, character formation, and safe environment training promotes communication between you and your child. You are encouraged to review the program materials that the catechist will be using in the classroom, as well as the materials you will receive for home discussion.

- Develop an understanding of what it means to be a member of a faith community.
- Develop an understanding of prayer and worship.
- Motivate children to serve others as Christ has taught.
