Advent at Cathedral
Rorate Caeli Mass: This Saturday, December 3 at 6:45am, Father Gough will celebrate a candlelit Mass in the Lady Chapel. As the Mass progresses, the rising sun will gradually break through the windows, as Christ the Light of World again becomes present in the Eucharist and we approach to receive him in Holy Communion. The traditional Gregorian antiphons and chants will be sung, from which the name of this Mass is taken: "Drop down, ye heavens, from above, (Rorate caeli) and let the skies pour down righteousness."
Advent Retreat: Continuing their Catholic 301 series, Father Gough and Father Brendan Fitzgerald (Rector, Basilica of the Assumption) will offer an Advent Retreat on Saturday, December 17 at the Basilica from 9am-12pm. The morning will include Mass and the opportunity for confession. The retreat will center on The Advent of Salvation by Jean Daniélou, SJ, although it is not necessary to have read or own a copy of the book. Please register in advance at Ecclesia Christi Baltimore.
Christmas Carols & Outdoor Tree Lighting: Families are encouraged to attend the 5pm Mass on Saturday, December 17 and stay after to sing Christmas carols before lighting the tree on the Cathedral's front lawn. Carols will begin around 6:15pm. Cookies will follow.
Narthex Tree Lighting: Following the 9:30am Mass on Sunday, December 18, the tree in the narthex (back of the church) will be blessed and lit. For many years, Cathedral families have enjoyed having their picture taken by the tree. Tag us on Instagram @cathedralofmary and use #CathedralChristmas.
Lessons & Carols: A time-honored tradition, the Cathedral Choir will again present A Service of Lessons & Carols on Sunday, December 18 at 5pm. Selected Scripture passages and sacred music will announce the dawn of our salvation.
