Fr. Bianco's Message for the Week: December 2, 2022

Dear Cathedral Family,

Advent is a time when we prepare ourselves to celebrate our Lord’s first coming among us as an infant in the manger. However, it is mostly about keeping in mind the preparations we must make throughout our lives to welcome Him at His second coming. Please remember that the Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered every day at the Cathedral. There is no better way to prepare ourselves to welcome the Lord than by using this beautiful sacrament of God’s love, mercy, and healing. The First Reconciliation Service for our 2nd graders will be held this Saturday, December 3rd. Please pray for our little ones as they participate in this beautiful sacrament for the first time in preparation for receiving Jesus in the Eucharist.

Advent/Christmas Card and Calendar
The annual Advent/Christmas calendar of events was mailed to parishioners this past week. Please note the dates and times for all of the activities and Masses for the seasons. Unfortunately, due to an error from the printing service that we use, the Christmas Flowers envelope was not included in the mailing. You may find Christmas Flowers envelopes on the tables in the cathedral to donate. You may also donate online on Faith Direct. Thank you for your assistance in making the cathedral church so beautiful for Christmas.

Rorate Mass – December 3rd
On Saturday, December 3rd at 6:45 AM, Fr. Justin Gough will offer a Rorate Mass in the Lady Chapel. With the chapel bathed only in candlelight, this pre-dawn Mass, offered as a Memorial of Our Lady in Advent, prepares us for Christ the Light to enter the darkened world. Please consider attending this beautiful Mass.

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception – Thursday, December 8
Mary, conceived without sin, is the fairest member of the human race and was found worthy to bear Christ the Lord. It is a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass is offered at 7:00 AM, 8:15 AM, and 5:30 PM. The obligation can also be fulfilled on Wednesday, December 7th at the 5:30 PM Mass.

Cathedral Christmas Eve Children’s Choir
Julie Grace Males, Director of Cathedral Music Ministry, invites children in Grades 3-8 from both the school and parish to join the Cathedral Christmas Eve Children’s Choir. Practices will be held Monday, December 12th and December 19th in the Cathedral Choir Room (located beneath the Sacristy) from 3:30pm t0 4:15pm. Children must attend both practices to participate. Please sign up here bit.ly/CMOQChoir22 by Friday, December 9th.

Save the Date: Giving Tuesday

For the third year Cathedral will participate in #GivingTuesday! Millions of people have come together to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.

We hope you will join this movement on November 29 and support the parish you love!  All funds raised will go towards our Christmas Offertory Collection which will help sustain our parish through the winter months.
You can make a gift through Faith Direct or drop off cash or a check at the Parish Center.

We hope to create a wave of generosity that will last well beyond November 29!
