Fr. Bianco's Message for the Week: November 18, 2022

Dear Cathedral Family,

As we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday this week, I wish all of you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving. We have many reasons to express our gratitude to God. A great way to show our thanks to God is by participating in Mass. The word Eucharist means ‘thanksgiving’. Please join us for Mass on Thanksgiving morning at 8:15 as we give thanks to God in a special way for the many blessings He bestows on us. Please note that the 7:00 AM Mass, 4:30 PM Confessions and Adoration, and the 5:30 PM Mass will not be offered on Thanksgiving Day. Also, the Parish Center will be closing on Wednesday at 1:00 PM and will be closed all day Thursday and Friday next week.

Homecoming Weekend
Home coming weekend was, once again, a great success and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our Cathedral community. I am grateful for our generous sponsors who made everything possible, especially the refreshments after Masses and the concert and reception Sunday afternoon. I am also grateful for Mary Beliveau, Director of Development, for the many hours and hard work that she put into making the weekend a success. I’m looking forward to next year’s Homecoming Weekend when we will have our biennial Bull and Oyster Roast.

Cathedral Colloquium
Our inaugural Cathedral Colloquium was a great success. The speakers were enlightening, intriguing, and engaging. Stay tuned for the next Cathedral Colloquium in the spring as we explore Faith and Reason and how they are not exclusive to one another but are complimentary.

Thanksgiving Collection
Monday, November 21st is the final day to contribute to the Thanksgiving Collection. If you have not already done so, please donate online or by delivering a check to the Parish Center payable to Cathedral of Mary Our Queen during office hours (9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday - Friday). Thank you to those who have already contributed. Please help us to feed those in need this Thanksgiving by donating a turkey through Walk with the Wise Ministry which supports families in the parish communities of Immaculate Conception and St. Cecilia in downtown Baltimore.

Giving Tuesday
For the third year, the Cathedral parish will participate in #GivingTuesday. We hope you will join this movement on November 29th and support the parish you love. All funds raised will go towards our Christmas Offertory Collection, which will help sustain our parish through the winter months. You can make a gift through Faith Direct or drop off cash or a check at the Parish Center. Thank you for your generosity.

Archbishop Lori Elected Vice President of the USCCB
Archbishop William Lori has been elected as Vice President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for a three-year term. This necessitates that he will step down as Chair of the Pro-Life Committee in order to fulfill his new duties with the Conference. Let’s keep our archbishop in our prayers as he begins this new role of leadership within the nation’s Conference of bishops.

May God bless you.

Father Louis A. Bianco
Rector
