Fr. Bianco's Message for the Week: November 27, 2021

Dear Cathedral Parishioners,

This weekend begins the season of Advent and a new liturgical year. The word ‘advent’ comes from the Latin word adventus, which simply means ‘arrival’ or ‘coming’. Certainly, we are preparing to celebrate God’s arrival among us as a human in the Person of Jesus Christ, but Advent is a time when we also remind ourselves of other ways that the Lord comes to us, namely at the end of time, but also when God enters our lives every day through our hearts, minds, and souls. We are reminded of that ongoing contact with God in the celebration of the Sacraments, especially in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. This Advent, let us make the effort to worship God in person at Mass as we give thanks for His presence in the Eucharist.

Please consider participating in our second annual Giving Tuesday on November 30th. Our goal is $5,000 and will support our Christmas Collection. For every new recurring Faith Direct account created with a donation made by December 31, Faith Direct will match dollar for dollar up to $1,000. You can donate on our website at or directly in Faith Direct at

You may find the annual Cathedral Parish and School Financial Summary for fiscal year 2021 here: Because of the generosity of all of our parishioners and school families, we ended FY21 in a very good financial position. Thank you for all you do for our Cathedral community.

Next week on Wednesday, December 1st, the second Evening of Praise during Adoration will be offered at 7 PM with a young adult social in the rectory afterwards. We had a great turn out last month and will continue this event every 1st Wednesday of the month.

Next weekend on Saturday, December 4, join us for our Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony after the 5 PM Mass with Christmas carols and pizza. Fr. Justin Gough and I are excited to attend this event for this first time. We hope to see you there to carry out this wonderful Cathedral tradition.

May God bless you.

Father Louis A. Bianco

Adopt A Family

“Whatever you did for these least brothers of mine, you did it for me”
(Mt 25: 40).

The Cathedral community has sponsored the Adopt-A-Family program for more than 30 years, to benefit our Sister Parish, Immaculate Conception and St. Cecilia’s, in West Baltimore City.  Our gifts and donations benefit families in need and bring Christmas joy and hope to this struggling community!

In 2020, we adopted 125 families (over 700 individuals).  Thousands of dollars and gift cards were also donated to provide assistance through Immaculate Conception and St. Cecilia’s community outreach.  This program presents a wonderful opportunity for all of us, especially our children, to practice the true meaning of Christmas.
Please sign up here to adopt a family. by December 10th.  You will receive a family profile with the names and ages of the family members.  Please note that many families have young adults and are often multi-generational.
