Fr. Bianco's Message for the Week: September 23, 2022

Dear Cathedral Family,

Last Sunday we welcomed back our Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) and Family Faith Formation programs. We had over 50 children participate in CLOW! It was wonderful to see so many children and families at the 9:30 AM Mass.

New Staff Member
I am happy to announce that Alexandra Mihaly will be joining the Cathedral staff as our new Coordinator of Faith Formation beginning Monday, September 26th. Alexandra just completed her time as Youth Minister at Our Lady of the Fields parish in Millersville, MD. She has held that position for two years and has done great things growing their program. Before that, Alexandra and I worked together in the Catholic Center when she was an administrative assistant to Archbishop Lori. Alexandra will create a vibrant youth ministry, oversee family faith formation, sacramental prep, and the Confirmation program, and will be involved in the Cathedral school. We are grateful to have Alexandra join our Cathedral family.

Homecoming 2022
We are gearing up for our annual Homecoming Weekend this November 11-13. The youth event signups (Kids Night OutMiddle School Mixer, & High School Night) are open on our website, so please sign up early to ensure your child has a spot! This year, we will hold a Homecoming concert to kick off our new Cathedral Music Series on Sunday, November 13th at 3:00 PM. Please also join us for a wine and cheese reception in the rectory after the concert (please sign up for the reception so we can have an accurate headcount).

After all Masses Sunday morning, November 13th, we will offer our popular doughnut and waffle trucks. Please note that the Bull & Oyster Roast will not be held this year, as this is an every-other-year event. I’m looking forward to this fun weekend together.

Fall Fellowship
Please join us after the 5:00 PM Mass on Saturday, October 8th in front of the church for fellowship and food. We will gather simply to spend some time with each other while enjoying food prepared by the Men of Mary Our Queen. This date also marks the anniversary of Pope Saint John Paul II’s visit to the Cathedral in 1995. There is no registration required for this event.

Coordinator for Cathedral’s Social Outreach Efforts

We are seeking a volunteer to direct our social outreach initiatives. With the departure of Chris McCullough, we have a need to fill this responsibility. Some of the tasks include overseeing our annual Thanksgiving Drive, Painted Bowls and meal packing events during Lent, and would represent the Cathedral with GEDCO (Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation). If you are interested, please contact either Fr. Louis Bianco at [email protected] or Fr. Justin Gough at [email protected]

Catholic 301
The next installment of Catholic 301 begins on October 1st. Fr, Justin Gough will be discussing The Nature and Mission of Theology: Joseph Ratzinger. Please visit our website at to sign up.

Loaves & Fishes
Sunday, September 24th is our Sunday to participate in Loaves and Fishes. We are in need of volunteers. Please use the following link to sign up:

Annual Appeal for Catholic Ministries

So far we have raised $230,725, which is 92% of our goal.

This year instead of our parish only receiving a portion of funds raised for the Appeal for Catholic Ministries, Cathedral will keep 100% of all donations up to $250,000. Any funds raised over our goal will support the many important ministries of the appeal.

The funds will go towards several projects that will benefit the entire Cathedral campus. For more details please visit our website. Thank you for your generous support!
