Community Outreach

There are many ways that Cathedral supports the community. We encourage you to serve with us!

Monthly Opportunities

Loaves and Fishes

Looking for volunteers to help feed those experiencing homelessness! Volunteers work in shifts, by shopping Saturdays, preparing the meal Sundays afternoons, and delivering the meal throughout Baltimore City on Sunday evenings. This a very fulfilling and direct way to carry out Jesus’ call to feed the hungry.  Loaves and Fishes is a ministry of St. Ignatius that seeks to provide an evening meal to people living on the streets.

Annual Opportunities

Haiti Carnavale

The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen has partnered with the Cathedral of St. Charles Borromeo, in Gonaives, Haiti, in a partner-parish relationship. Through the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Missions Office Haiti Project, we have joined more than 20 other parishes in partnering with a parish in our sister diocese in Haiti, the Archdiocese of Gonaives. Join us every fall for The Haiti Carnavale, an event where we come together as a school and parish community to celebrate the beginning of the school year and to host a fundraiser for our partner parish, St. Charles Borromeo, in Haiti.

What happens the night of Haiti Carnavale? So many fun activities! Family and carnival games, including relay races, balloon toss, moon bounce, basketball, craft table, and face painting, a dunk tank, a 50/50 raffle, a wine pull, and more.

Adopt a Family

Join us by adopting a family in need by providing nonperishable FOOD and a frozen turkey or canned ham for Christmas dinner and a NEW WRAPPED GIFT or gift card for each family member. Cathedral has sponsored the Adopt-A-Family program for more than 30 years, with our Sister Parish, Immaculate Conception on Mosher Street and Druid Hill Avenue, a site in the heart of much unrest in Baltimore City.  We appreciate your support!

CARES Food Pantry collections

GEDCO’s CARES ministry serves families and individuals in crisis by connecting our clients with resources that enable movement towards self-sufficiency. These resources include food and emergency financial assistance services. As often as you are able, please drop off non-perishable items in the narthex (the back of the church, as you face the altar) – the baskets are labeled. You may also drop off at the Parish Center during business hours. Thank you for your support!

Cathedral Knits

Cathedral Knits meets often to knit prayer shawls, hats and scarves. They donate the completed items to the Weinberg Housing and Resource Center (a homeless shelter in Baltimore), Johns Hopkins Hospital, and KasCare (a non profit group that supports children in South Africa). If you’re able to drop off any donations for the group, a basket is located on the right side of the narthex (back of the church as you face the altar). Interested in joining in? Contact the Parish office.
